Dan Doo’s Carpet Crusade
Dan Doo, Candoo’s Chief Extraction Officer (CEO), wasn’t born with a golden vacuum—more like a dustpan and brush. Instead, he grew up in a tiny Kiwi town about 14 lint rollers shy of the WopWops, where he developed an early fascination with banishing dirt and restoring order to chaos. As his mates unlocked video game levels, Dan was busy unlocking the secrets of stain removal.
Legend has it that Dan’s first battle with a stain happened at the tender age of seven. Armed with only a sponge and dish soap, he tackled a tomato sauce disaster on the family rug—and won. That victory lit a fire in him that no amount of carpet friction could extinguish.
By age nine, Dan had earned the neighborhood title of “Stain Whisperer,” thanks to his ability to make even the nastiest marks disappear faster than Uncle Barry at cleanup time. His pièce de résistance? But Dan’s true claim to fame came as a teenager, when he competed in the Great Kiwi Cleaning Clash, taking home the coveted Crystal Carpet Cup three years running. His secret weapon? A revolutionary “dab-and-blot” technique that left audiences—and competitors—in awe. “Stains fear me, and carpets love me,” Dan once said, as he accepted his third trophy.
However, Dan’s journey to the top wasn’t without its detours. After university, Dan landed what he thought was the role of a lifetime: starring in a film called Gone In 60 Seconds. He was convinced it was a high-octane drama about stain removal under extreme pressure. Turns out, it was about cars. Disillusioned and mildly offended, Dan walked off the set, recommending his mate Nicolas Cage for the part instead. The studio begrudgingly settled on Cage. “Little Nikki,” as Dan still has him saved in his phone, went on to credit Dan for igniting his entire Hollywood career. Meanwhile, Dan felt lost—but not for long.
